The Burrowing Owl gave up on trees entirely and lives underground in prairie dog tunnels, hunting by day on absurd long legs. The Great Horned Owl is the continent's most adaptable predator and one of the few animals that will kill a skunk. The Barred Owl asks who cooks for you from the eastern woods, and has pushed west far beyond its old range. And the Eastern Screech-Owl comes in rust or gray, fits in a coat pocket, and is very likely living in your neighborhood already.
